Melbourne Branch Hunt – 2026

Dates:
Friday 15th – Sunday 17th May


Arrival

Arrival is welcome anytime from Friday afternoon.
Please note: Some members may arrive earlier, but the official hunt begins on Friday 15th May. Anyone arriving prior does so at their own discretion.


Getting There

  • Travel along Mount Buller Road from Mansfield towards Merrijig for approximately 4 km.
  • Turn right at the sign to Jamieson and continue for about 26 km.
  • Turn left onto Howqua River Road, immediately after crossing the Howqua River.
  • Continue for approximately 10 km on gravel road.
  • Look for the Running Creek Camping Reserve sign on your left.
  • The campsite is located 300 m from this sign.

Road Conditions:

  • The access track is a moderate slope and generally suitable for all vehicles.
  • After heavy rain, conditions may become slippery and temporarily unsuitable for 2WD vehicles.

Camp Identification:
The Melbourne Branch banner will be displayed at the campground entrance.


Registration Information

At registration, you will be required to provide:

  • Emergency contact name and phone number
  • Vehicle type, colour, and registration number

(This is required for safety purposes.)


Camp Facilities

  • Basic bush campsite
  • Long drop toilet

Catering

  • Saturday evening meal provided
  • All other meals are self-catered

Cost:
A $25 (incl. GST) contribution toward catering will be collected at registration.


Hunting Method

  • Stalking only

Experience Levels:

  • We will aim to pair less experienced hunters with experienced members where possible, though this cannot be guaranteed.
  • In some cases, small group hunts (very limited numbers) may be organised with an experienced hunter.

Dogs

  • Dogs are permitted in the campsite only and must be kept on a leash.
  • Owners are responsible for understanding where dogs may legally be used while hunting.
  • Gundogs and hounds are not permitted in National Parks.
