Tasmania's antlerless deer season for 2021 opened yesterday.
Speaking on the opening, Tasmanian Primary Industries Minister Guy Barnett said
"The opening of the 2021 antlerless deer season provides many Tasmanians with the opportunity to pursue an important tradition and way of life. We recognise recreational hunters also help manage wild fallow deer populations on both private and public land."
The 2021 deer game season has two parts. The adult male (buck) season opened on 27 February and will run until 4 April 2021.
The antlerless (doe) deer season commences today, 15 March 2021, and will run until 15 November 2021, however hunting antlerless deer on public land will not commence until 7 April 2021 at the conclusion of the stag season. This is necessary in order to manage the number of hunters in these areas for hunter safety.
During the 2021 season, hunting for both male and antlerless deer can occur on private land with the permission of the landholder, as well as on a number of authorised public land reserve areas.
Online bookings also close at midnight today for the fallow doe season (antlerless deer) ballot for hunting access to public land. Successful applicants will receive their authorisations via email before the opening of the reserves for the antlerless season on 7 April 2021.
Minister Barnett reminded Game Licence holders to be vigilant in relation to personal safety and the safety of others, and of the importance of wearing a high visibility vest or hat. The Minister also noted that It is important to respect the environment by removing personal litter and minimising impact on native plants and animals.
