Hunting expenditure in New South Wales continues to lead the way
Hunting has again been confirmed as a key economic activity in the newly released New South Wales Department of Primary Industries Performance Data & Insights report for 2019/20.
The report shows that hunting was worth a whopping $1.4billion to New South Wales last year, eclipsing industries such as wool, poultry, dairy and forestry.
It is difficult to estimate the economic value of hunting in the context of other primary industry sectors because, for the most part, game harvest is not sold and paid for in markets. Expenditure measures based on industry output are therefore considered more appropriate for reporting hunting alongside other primary industry sectors.
Hunting supports businesses directly related to the manufacture and sale of hunting and outdoor products and services as well as specialist businesses including game bird farms and hunting tour operators. Hunting also supports fuel, accommodation and food businesses.
