Camp Overview
Bennie’s Camp is a maintained camping ground within the Alpine National Park.

No booking or fees required
Suitable for box trailer-sized camp trailers
Hunting in Victoria – Game Management Authority (GMA)
Hunting on public land in Victoria is managed by the GMA. While camping at Bennie’s, most hunting occurs within the Alpine National Park.
All hunters must:
Hold a GMA permit to stalk Sambar deer
Be aware of their location within the park

There is no forest booking system in Victoria as exists in NSW.
Firearm Requirements
In Victoria, firearm specifications are legally enforced:
Minimum .270 calibre with 130gr projectile for Sambar
Only Sambar may be hunted in the Alpine National Park
Non-compliant firearms (e.g., .22) must not be in your vehicle
GMA compliance officers may inspect campsites, so ensure firearms and ammunition are securely stored
Personal Gear
All members must be fully self-sufficient, including:
Camping gear, bedding, and warm clothing
Food and cooking equipment
Lighting
Gloves and sturdy gators (recommended for snake protection and rough terrain)
Be prepared for cold and wet conditions, particularly in alpine environments.
Safety Equipment
Recommended safety gear includes:
First aid kit
Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) – ADA members can contact Peter at ePirb Hire for discounted pricing
Always inform another member of your intended hunting area
Be prepared to stay out overnight if necessary
Note: Heading out along Lake Cobbler Road involves descending into a valley, then uphill. If lost, simply follow downhill to reach the road.
Traveling to Bennie’s
The trip can be long, so plan accordingly:
Break the journey with overnight stops at Yass or Gundagai (camping by the river is an option)
Arriving in the late morning allows time to set up camp and explore the area
