Urban sambar captures Melbourne's attention on lockdown weekend
A wild deer in inner suburban Melbourne has captured the attention of a City which is unusually quiet due to a COVID lockdown.
The deer, a young sambar stag, has been spotted in numerous locations in Melbourne's inner east in recent days, having likely found his way down the Yarra River from Melbourne's peri-urban fringe.

There have been a handful of these occurrences in Melbourne's east in recent years - typically involving young male deer and typically in and around the peak breeding times.
The deer was caught up with by vets in a laneway in Northcote and euthanised using a dart gun.
