Upcoming Hound Hunting and Waterfowl Identification tests a start, but need to be more available
The Australian Deer Association and other groups and organisations are working with the Game Management Authority to ensure that Hound Hunting and Waterfowl Identification Tests can be conducted ahead of the hunting seasons.
This has been particularly challenging over the past year as Government buildings have been unavailable due to COVID restrictions.
The ADA will be assisting with testing in Bairnsdale (Hounds only) on March 24 from 3pm - (Bookings online) and Heidelberg (Hounds and WIT) on 15 April from 7.30pm (for bookings contact Gino Lendaro melb.pres@austdeer.asn.au or Ph 0418 994 281).
There are also bookings available for hound tests in Benalla, Bendigo, Traralgon, Epping and Box Hill and for WIT tests in Benalla, Bendigo, Sale, Lakes Entrance, Traralgon, Ballarat, North Geelong, Epping and Box Hill.
We are also working with GMA to get hound testing conducted in Tasmania.
Back in 2012, we argued that third parties like hunting organisations and retailers should be enabled to conduct these tests on behalf of the GMA - the case for that change has only grown stronger over the past decade.
This change would make the tests widely available at convenient times, both across Victoria and Nationally.
Third parties already conduct testing for NSW R-Licences and, in Victoria, for such varied licences as Firearms, Cranes, Road Trains, Boats and Motorcycles.
The Victorian Game Regulations are currently being reviewed, in that review the Australian Deer Association will again be making the case for this testing to be made more available.
