As part of a cabinet reshuffle in the Victorian government, the Minister for Environment, Outdoor Recreation, and Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos, has been promoted to Minister for Economic Growth and Tourism while maintaining the Sports and Major Events portfolio.
Recreational hunters and public land users will look back fondly on Minister Dimopoulos’ time in the portfolio, through his comprehensive policy reforms that enhanced access and opportunities for environmental management and recreational hunting. This commenced in October 2023, when he assumed the role and addressed the crisis facing duck hunting. Since then, significant reforms have occurred at Parks Victoria, as well as key Australian Deer Association advocacy outcomes, including opening the Snowy River and Errinundra National Parks for recreational deer hunting, the launch of the game-changing hut pilot program, and the establishment of Outdoor Recreation Victoria.
Minister Dimopoulos will leave a lasting legacy that will be appreciated by all public land users for generations to come.
Following the promotion of Minister Dimopoulos, the new Minister for Environment and Outdoor Recreation is Minister Enver Erdogan.
The Australian Deer Association welcomes Mr Erdogan to his new Ministry and looks forward with confidence to building on established foundations to deliver outcomes for outdoor recreation and public land recreational deer hunting.
As part of this reshuffle the inaugural Parliamentary Secretary for Outdoor Recreation, Luba Grigorovitch, is promoted to Minister for Youth and Minister for Carers and Volunteers. During her time as Parliamentary Secretary, Ms Grigorovitch has been a strong supporter of outdoor recreation and made a significant contribution that will benefit recreational hunters into the future.
