Ongoing hound inspections

None

Across two weekends (19th – 21st of August & the 2nd – 4th of September), the Game Management Authority Victoria (GMA) was in the field talking to hunters in popular hunting areas.

During that time GMA Authorised Officers spoke to 120 hunters. Of these hunters, 68 (56%) were endorsed for hound hunting.

The Officers also sighted 67 hounds of which, 53 (79%) were able to be assessed in the field. Of these 53, 12 (22%) have been sent for an independent assessment review.

As a result of the operations across the two weekends, 6 infringement notices will be or have been issued as well as 4 verbal warnings.

4 unlicensed hunters were also found, and 1 hunter did not have the hound hunting endorsement on their game license.

The GMA experienced terrific engagement and interaction between hunters and their Authorised Officers. Many hunters commented that they were happy to see the GMA in the field as it sent a strong message to anyone who thinks about doing the wrong thing.

The GMA has continuing operations to enforce the rules and regulations out in the field. Should you see them out and about, they are always happy to chat and answer any questions that you may have.
