Facebook blackout of “news” knobbles NGO’s

None

18 February 2021

As most readers are probably now aware, social media giant Facebook has this morning moved to block Australian users from accessing news from publishers pages, including major outlets such as the ABC, News Limited and Nine.

The move also prevents overseas users from sharing Australian content.

Facebook says that it has made the move in response to the Australian Federal Government’s proposed media bargaining laws.

The ADA notes that a number of organisation and non-government pages have also been caught up in the blackout.

The situation appears to be with pages which regularly share content from major news organisations.

We are under no illusion that we are immune from this, but we haven’t been caught up in it just yet.

If our feed does go down make sure that you stay tuned to the ADA website and Twitter @ADADeerPeople for the latest.
