Dog & Gun Coffee entered the market last year with an innovative drip filter coffee for backpackers and travellers.
It’s a really nice concept – fourteen grams of real café quality coffee, sealed for freshness in a package that can easily be carried in the field.
Dog & Gun ‘s mission is:
“To encourage hunting as a means to connect with the wilderness and contribute to the conservation of critical habitats and wildlife.”
The company donates at least one percent of their revenue to hunter-friendly environmental causes in Australia and New Zealand.
The coffee comes in two blends – the “Red Stag roast” is the medium roast, smooth blend and the “Sambar” is a dark roast with a stronger flavour.
We gave some “Red Stag” to game chef Daniel Airo-Farulla for his opinion:
"Upon first opening the packet I was a little confused how to operate the drip system but quickly worked it out with some origame practice.
Coffee has a pleasant light to medium flavour profile. Easy on the palate with a hint of caramel.
Very convenient for the backpack if you want a good coffee option on the go."
I found both blends to be tasty and easy to drink.
The drip filters are great treat for a backpack hunter and good in the tucker box in the vehicle too.
