COVID only a slight handbrake on hunting spend in New South Wales

The New South Wales Department of Primary industries has released its annual performance data and insights report for 2020, showing that recreational hunting is the State’s fourth largest primary industry by output. Hunting recorded only a marginal decline on the 2019 figures despite the unprecedented disruption caused by bushfires and COVID-19 restrictions.

It is not always easy to tell hunting’s story to the broader community. Economic data is one way of demonstrating our importance, side by side with other ‘industries’ in a way that most people can understand.

Recreational hunting activities support businesses directly related to the manufacture and sale of hunting and outdoors products, camping equipment and hunting outfitters.

In 2020 hunting contributed $1.4billion to the NSW economy, down 10% on the previous year.
