Balloted hunting called off due to Coronavirus

None

Victoria’s iconic public land hog deer hunting ballot has been suspended for the rest of 2020 as the State responds to the Coronavirus pandemic. The Blond Bay Hog Deer Advisory Group reached the decision this afternoon.

Hunters for the three remaining periods on Snake Island have been offered the same periods for 2021 and will also be able to enter the 2021 ballot in the hope of securing an earlier position.

“It was a difficult call to make, but undoubtedly the right one” ballot Secretary Simon Webster said. “The ballot is run by hunters, for hunters. It was gut wrenching to cancel and we wanted to make sure that the hunters who had already put so much work into their preparations were still afforded a fair opportunity when things return to normal”.

Balloted hunting provides exceptional public land hunting opportunities for the exotic hog deer. Victoria is the only place in the world which offers free range, public land hog deer hunting.
