Accountability critical to results

None

Following the adoption of the Sustainable Hunting Action Plan 2016–2020 by the Victorian Government key performance indicators were developed by the Australian Deer Association and Field & Game Australia to track progress and implementation.

We are now eighteen months out
from the conclusion of the Sustainable Hunting Action Plan (SHAP) and there is still much left to do.

The Deer Management Strategy is all but complete but is being delayed by bureaucrats who are seemingly seeking to turn the clear action as written in the SHAP into something it is not. We have been actively reminding the Victorian Government of the need to remain true to its clearly stated commitment under the SHAP.

The Government has also committed to establishing an expert advisory panel to oversee the transition to the Waterfowl Harvest Conservation Model, this panel has now been formed and is meeting. It is critical that the new model has this oversight by suitably qualified and trusted experts so that all stakeholders in waterfowl hunting (including hunters and our detractors) have confidence that both the inputs and the outputs are sound and are geared towards sustainability.
