This chital stag taken in 2013 features antlers with great length (over the magic 30 inches), great tines and great symmetry so that it scores very well under the Douglas system. With a score of 194 7/8 Douglas points it enters the ADA’s Top 50 listing for chital at Number 18.
As can be seen from the accompanying photograph, chital with the rich brown and white-spotted coat and slender and very stylish antlers, are widely regarded as the most attractive of Australia’s deer species and one that every Aussie deer hunter really should make the effort to hunt at some time in their life. As an added bonus for hunters from the Deep South, the area of North Queensland that is home to the key chital populations provides a unique hunting experience in a very different environment and among a very diverse and interesting flora and fauna.
