A CHITAL STAG TAKEN BY ANDREW SALIBAS

None

FEATURE TROPHY

Andrew Salibas took a magnificent chital stag in Queensland in 2025 that scores 199 1/8 Douglas points and places it at Number 16 in the ADA’s Top 50 listing for the species.

The stark white colour of the trophy antlers indicate that the stag was in late velvet when it was shot and the velvet was stripped in order to have the trophy scored (velvet-covered antlers cannot be scored under the Douglas System). Chital stags are fierce fighters and taking an animal after the antlers have fully calcified but before their velvet has been stripped is one way of ensuring that all of the delicate tips are still intact to contribute to the final score.

Like all trophies that score well under the Douglas System, Andrew’s trophy is very symmetrical, with the classic shape so characteristic of these animals, and the long and delicate tines that are also expected. As the antlers also have two small matching snags on the brow tines, they add a couple of points to the score which is a bonus.
