This year, four National Hunting Camps will be held in the Koetong-Shelley district, North East Victoria, with the headquarters set at Shelley Forest Camp. Located halfway between Tallangatta and Corryong on Avondale Road, the camp is easily accessible, just 300 metres south of the Murray Valley Highway. For any interstate attendees requiring a border pass, the address is Shelley Forest Camp, 33 Avondale Road, Shelley, VIC 3701.
The Koetong-Shelley region offers a mountainous, forested landscape, interspersed with open grazing areas and pine plantations, rich in sambar and fallow deer and with a smaller population of red deer. The National Hunting Camp will run for 11 consecutive nights, with flexibility for ADA members from any branch to attend for the full duration or any portion of it. Accommodation includes either bunkroom lodging or outdoor camping, with equal access to all indoor amenities—ample cooking, refrigeration, freezer facilities, and a large BBQ under the veranda. Note that outdoor camping sites do not have power but are supported by these shared facilities.
Hunters who bag a deer early can utilise the on-site freezer to store their venison, allowing them to continue hunting through the camp period. Attendees are responsible for their own food, meals, and other provisions.
Camp Costs:
Bunkroom accommodation: $40 per person, per night
Outdoor camping: $35 per person, per night (tent, swag, or self-supplied caravan)
A one-time $25 fee covers shared costs for camp cleaning, map printing, and miscellaneous expenses.
Hunting Block Allocation:
Block assignments will be finalised on the evening of each hunter's arrival, with prior provisional assignments possible. Factors considered in allocations include hunting experience, vehicle type (2WD or 4WD), stay length, and booking timing. Early bookings of six nights or more receive priority.
Hunters may choose to hunt alone or in pairs, with a maximum field capacity of 42 hunters or pairs, including blocks affected by the January 2020 fires. Some of these blocks have since proven fruitful during recent camps.
To ensure everyone’s safety, hunters must stick to their allocated blocks for each day. Any block changes need to be coordinated back at camp to avoid confusion.
Whether you're new to deer hunting or an experienced hunter, join us for 11 nights of prime hunting and great camaraderie.
