Melbourne Branch Hunt – Running Creek Camp Site Howqua

15 September Fri, 3:00 pm 2023 to 17 Sept 1pm

All Branchs Welcome

Further information sent to those that register.

Getting there:

Follow the Mount Buller Road from Mansfield towards Merrijig for 4km.  Turn right at the sign to Jamieson and travel for about 26km.  Turn left at the Howqua River Road immediately after the Howqua River.  After approximately 10km on gravel road you will reach the Running Creek Camping Reserve sign on your left.  The campsite is 300m from this sign.  The track to the Reserve is a moderate slope and is accessible to all vehicles.  However, following heavy rains this road becomes slippery and may become temporarily inaccessible to 2WD’s.  The Melbourne Branch Banner will be at the entrance to the campgrounds.

 Camp site

  • Basic
  • Long Drop toilet

Catering

Saturday evening meal provided.  Don’t forget to provide for yourself for all other meals.

A $25 contribution to food costs includes admin fees to ADA and GST.  Under 18s Free but they do need to be registered on the ADA system.

Hunting Method

Stalking as always.  Also, companion dogs and hounds can be used in this area.  We will try to pair inexperienced hunters with more experienced ones, but that can't be guaranteed.  An alternative approach used previously, is to have a small [very small] group hunt with an experienced hunter.

Safety Protocols :

  • When arriving at camp, each and every time, firearms are to be safety checked.  Take a committee member to your firearm, NOT visa versa.
  • When leaving the camp to hunt check out and then back in with a committee member.  This is for your and other’s safety, as well as our sanity.
  • Rifle and ammunition:  Correctly stored for transport.  At all times when not hunting firearms must be stored safely in a locked vehicle and out of sight.  Always check your firearm is unloaded when traveling on public roads / 4WD track and BEFORE you enter camp, unless you are walking back from a hunt, then remove ammo & bolt and insert a chamber flag.  If you can’t remove the bolt, a chamber flag will suffice.
