The branch will again be hosting a week-long hunt at Bondi Forest Lodge. An educational session for newer hunters will be held on Saturday night.
We have booked one full hut (12 rooms) at $40 per person per night (cash only, payable to Brian on arrival). If attendance exceeds 12, additional huts are available. At this stage, our group is the only one booked at the lodge.
Accommodation
Each room contains a bed and mattress – bring your own blankets, sleeping bag and bedding.
Keys will be left in the doors, so simply select a room on arrival.
The hut has power outlets for charging devices and running car fridges.
Shared bathrooms offer hot showers and toilets.
The site also accommodates caravans and camper trailers (same $40 per night fee).
Mobile service is extremely limited.
Kitchen Facilities
A recently updated commercial kitchen is available with:
Vertical fridges and freezers
Full cooking setup, cutlery and cookware
Gas stove
Plenty of space for meal preparation
DPI Requirements
All hunters must be fully DPI compliant, including:
Booked forests
Blaze orange clothing
Permission letters
Current GPS/Avenza maps
Bondi Forest averages around 50 hunters per day, but weekday pressure is usually low. Other nearby forests can also be booked—two at a time if required.
Firearms can be stored in your vehicle or your room, but must be secured. When returning to the lodge during the day, please remove all ammunition from your pockets and belt pouches.
The local compliance officer often visits, so ensure all documentation is correct and accessible.
If you find a productive hunting area and intend to revisit it, please mention it back at the lodge—this keeps things respectful and avoids doubling up.
Given we’re only about 10 km from the Victorian border, a Victorian GMA licence may be worth considering for flexibility.
Always advise another member where you plan to hunt.
Game Processing
Animals can be butchered at the lodge.
A dedicated hanging tree with a gambrel sits beside the car park.
Carcasses must be taken to the “boneyard”, about 1 km from the lodge.
There is ample fridge space for storing meat.
Getting There
From Cooma, travel south on the Monaro Highway to Bombala (approx. 80 km).
Leaving Bombala, continue south and turn left back onto the Monaro Hwy.
After approx. 10 km, turn right into Mila Rd.
Follow Mila Rd for about 9 km until the road veers left (Little Plains Rd continues straight).
After another 3.5 km, turn left into Buldah Rd.
Travel approx. 9 km to Bondi Forest Lodge—you’ll see a large shed at the front, with the lodge located behind it.
New Members & Inexperienced Hunters
If you’re new to hunting or unsure about preparation—gear, food, equipment, or where to start—please ask. Several experienced hunters will be on hand and are happy to take you out for a morning and help you get your bearings.
Travelling Through the ACT
If you are transiting through the ACT, please familiarise yourself with local firearms transport laws to ensure compliance.
Personal Gear Checklist
All attendees must be self-sufficient, including:
Food and cooking supplies
Clothing and wet-weather gear
All hunting equipment
Toiletries
First aid kit
UHF handheld (if you have one)
Personal Locator Beacon (PLB)
It’s also recommended that a family member has Brian’s contact number in case urgent communication is required.
Fishing
A large dam beside the lodge is stocked with trout.
Fishing with poppers, plastics, or fly gear is welcome.
Catch and release only.
For any questions, please contact Geoff – 0422 532 895.
Safe travels, and we look forward to seeing you there.
