ACT & Snowy Mountains: 2025 Royal Canberra Show - Woodchopping Cleanup Crew
Are you someone who enjoys live sport?
Would you like to do something different to support the Branch?
Woodchopping is the original and oldest Australian sport. People of all skills and ages compete. Did you know….it is also the chosen sport of one of the most successful athletes in the world? This is an opportunity to watch sport, get some incidental exercise and support your ADA Branch!
ACT & SM Branch have been given the opportunity to support the 2025 Royal Canberra Show Woodchopping event at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC) over two days (22-23 February 2025). We will serve as the "Clean Up Crew" and play a critical role in ensuring the program stays on schedule. A well organised crew makes for a smooth and entertaining day of competition.
Woodchoppers come in all shapes and sizes and it’s the same for the Crew. If you can do all or any of the following, you have what it takes:
Follow instructions to ensure the safety of yourself and others
Operate the equipment to some extent (hands also count as equipment)
Work with others as part of a team
Remove cut logs from cradles and arena (heavier work)
Clean up woodchips (light work)
Maintain the general tidiness of the arena (very light work)
You will be provided with:
Safety Brief & Duties – every volunteer will receive a brief prior to the commencement of shift. Follow the instruction associated with the duty and you will be safe
Equipment – all equipment will be provided (wheelbarrow/s, bucket/s, shovel/s)
Opportunity – to support the Branch in a different way. The Branch will receive a significant donation.
Entertainment – watch some of Australia’s finest axemen and women compete
Free entry to the show, water and other refreshments
We will need a minimum of eight (8) people each day and with more people, there will be more benefits. Time to visit your show favourites during a break and energy for other things at the end of the day. All you need to wear is sun-smart clothing, closed-toe footwear and gloves to protect your hands…..splinters hurt!
Interested? Click here to let us know your availability. Members of other ADA branches, partners and older children are welcome to nominate.
This is an opportunity worth our time and energy, and all questions are welcome. We look forward to hearing from you and doing something different!
