JOIN THE EVENT

ADA ACT & Snowy Mountains Christmas Clay Target Shooting Event

Join us for a relaxed day of clay target shooting and Christmas socialising at the Canberra International Clay Target Club. Whether you’re trying clay targets for the first time or looking for a shooting challenge, there’s something for everyone. Families, children and non-shooters are welcome to come along and enjoy the day.

Date: Saturday 28 November 2026
Time: 10 am start — please arrive early for the welcome and safety briefing
Venue: Canberra International Clay Target Club, 6394 Kings Hwy, Kowen ACT 2620— view directions
Registration: Register via the ADA website.

What’s on

Three shooting options will be available: a beginner layout, a five-stand course for those seeking a challenge, and a novelty flush shoot to test shooting and reloading skills. Authorised instructors will be on hand to assist new shooters and offer coaching.

The welcome begins at 10 am, followed by the safety briefing at approximately 10.15 am and shooting from 10.20 am. Lunch will be around noon, with all shooting paused until approximately 12.30 pm. Shooting will then continue while there is interest, and members are welcome to stay and socialise.

Participation and equipment

Licensed shooters may bring their own shotgun, provided their licence permits club shooting. Participants without a firearms licence or the required club-shooting endorsement can use a hired club shotgun under the supervision of an authorised instructor.

All shooters must be physically able to control a shotgun safely. Junior shooters must meet the club’s age requirements and have parental consent and supervision. Everyone must follow the club’s range rules.

Bring eye and ear protection if you have it; both are available on site. Spectators near the shooting stations should also wear protection.

Ammunition can be brought from home or purchased on the day. Shot must be no larger than #6; #7½ is the usual size. For the beginner and five-stand courses, allow approximately 30–35 shells per round of 25 targets.

Costs

  • Gun hire: $10 per person.
  • Beginner and five-stand targets: $14 per round of 25.
  • Flush shoot: $7 per shooter, with 24 targets shared between two shooters.
  • Ammunition: approximately $15 per packet of 25, depending on the brand.
  • Tea, coffee and a limited amount of BBQ venison in bread: free.

Cash and card are accepted.

Food and facilities

Please bring your own other food and drinks. BBQs, tables, chairs and toilet facilities are available, and soft drinks and alcohol can be purchased at the club. Shooters must finish shooting and lock away their firearms before consuming alcohol. Dogs must remain under their owner’s control at all times.

Cancellation conditions

The event will be cancelled if an ACT total fire ban is declared or flooding prevents safe access to the clubhouse. Check the ACT Emergency Services Agency website for fire-ban information and confirm the event is proceeding before travelling.

Register via the ADA website and join us for a Christmas catch-up on the range!
