Come together to celebrate ADA's 50th Anniversary

The new Northern & Yorke Branch and the South-East Branch, both of South Australia, are hosting the Shelley Hunting Camp in NE Victoria. Headquarters for this September/October event is the Shelley Forest Camp, located midway between Tallangatta and Corryong on the Murray Valley Highway.

NE Victoria is mountainous and a mosaic of native forest, open dairy country and pine plantations. The area has abundant fallow and sambar deer, and a smaller population of red deer.

Victoria's North East has a rich history and much to see

The Shelley Hunting Camp will run for nine (9) consecutive nights between (Saturday) 28 September and (Sunday) 6 October inclusive. ADA members are welcome to stay a minimum of at least 3 nights if sleeping indoors, or as little as 2 nights if camping outside (no powered sites).

Last year, at short notice, we ran a small camp of 15 people (attended by ADA members from SA, ACT, NSW and Vic) – everyone had a ball. This year, early indications are that people will be coming from as far away as Perth and Queensland. We expect larger numbers and therefore it is essential that people come prepared and book in accordance with these instructions.

The cost is $25 per member, per night for clean, dormitory style accommodation; $20 per member per night for camping outside (swag, tent or self-provided caravan). Prices include great fellowship, an excellent kitchen, mess and lounge facility and 24/7 hot showers. All multiples of $25 and $20 will be paid to Shelley’s permanent manager.

Attendees will also need to pay a one-off $20 surcharge whether they stay for one night or all 9 nights. The surcharge will go towards purchasing sundry items required to run the camp, and the printing of a limited number of maps/wall charts. Surplus “surcharge” money will be credited to the Northern & Yorke Branch’s account.

It is likely that from Monday 30 September onwards, there will be a sub-camp organised near Lake Dartmouth. We are looking for more people to come forward to help run that, and more details will be provided at Shelley upon arrival.

The winner of the Northern and Yorke Branch deer-hunt raffle, for a once-in-a-lifetime guided hunt in SE South Australia with Patrick Ross, ADA’s most recent Life Member, will be announced at Shelley after midday on Sunday 29 September.

Tickets are available online and will be for sale up to and including Saturday 28 September (the first day of the Shelley Hunting Camp). Having said that, get in early and buy your tickets to avoid missing out.

For insurance reasons, the Shelley Hunting Camp is only open to financial ADA members.
