The Southern Alps section of Victoria's Alpine National Park is re-opening to the public following large bushfires which burned for several weeks. 

Parks Victoria staff and their colleagues from Forest Fire Management Victoria are in the process of getting around to the many entry points across Gippsland and North-East Victoria to ensure that closure signage is removed and tracks are assessed and opened. This work is currently in progress and will continue over coming days with the aim of completion before the coming weekend.

Visitors should ensure that they are familiar with the current changes of conditions which are regularly updated on the Parks Victoria website. Some areas such as the Tarli Karng Walking Track network will remain closed for some time as work continues to make the area safe. 

Visitors should also note that planned burning activities are occurring in areas such as Wonnangatta Valley and large machines are still operating on tracks such as Zeka Spur and King Billy.

The Australian Deer Association commends Parks Victoria staff on the huge amount of work they have completed during and since the fire and on their commitment to keeping stakeholders like the hunting community informed along them way.
