The Australian Deer Association (ADA) is committed to promoting responsible, safe, and law-abiding hunting practices, as well as a strong focus on animal welfare, conservation, and wildlife management. We take great pride in the high standard and considerable value of our hunter education programs. These programs are so noteworthy that they have drawn the attention of international organisations who have adopted our principles in their own countries. Additionally, we often feature guest speakers from various Government departments, such as the Police, National Parks, Ambulance, and Land Management.
Deer hunting is a specialised and demanding pursuit, requiring a deep understanding of deer behaviour and their habitat, as well as responsible firearm use. One of the most commendable aspects of deer hunting in Australia is its low incidence of firearms-related injuries, a testament to the expertise and commitment of our hunters to safety. Preserving this impeccable safety record is of utmost importance to us. Any injuries to deer hunters can create unwarranted concerns among the public, potentially jeopardising deer hunting on public lands. This is why ADA places significant emphasis on training and hunter education.
Our local branches organise regular hunter education nights and weekend training trips, while state based working groups arrange more comprehensive live-in hunter education courses. At a personal level, peer group pressure serves as an additional layer of accountability, ensuring that hunters who demonstrate questionable behaviour are held to our high standards.
